Did my first round of vol2 tonight and man it was brutal. It’s a total different thing trying to get all protocols running together nicely than running them each separately. Also when doing entire scenarios you have to think if I solve requirement X in this way will it break requirement Z later on? These things make the labs really challenging. I now know how much I still have to learn but that is the first step I guess to achieving something great. I’m still really motivated to keep this thing going though. Hopefully after a few sessions I will get into the groove of it 🙂
First round of vol2 started
How many hours a day/week are you currently putting aside for studying?
I’m putting in about 20-25 hours per week. When I’m on the commute I do mostly reading and flash cards etc and then I do 3 days a week labbing with 3-4h sessions. Might have to increase the labbing a bit to keep the pace. Will have to evaluate soon.
My main concern when I start lab studies is lab time. I get home pretty late and leave for work early so max 1 hour a day during the week.
Weekends I can put in loads more, but need to balance my wife too…
Yes, it’s tough putting the hours in when having a family. It’s not worth sacrificing the family for a CCIE. I don’t have much time during the weekends since I want to spend that time with my family but sunday evening I do labs and at least two days during the week. If you can I would recommend you to do at least 2h sessions or you won’t find the right flow and it takes time getting everything setup etc. Might be worth to sacrifice some sleep one evenening and then go to bed early the next etc. You will have to find out what works for you though.
